What's the difference between the Advanced Methodology and Module 1 courses?
Both courses are designed to increase your methodology knowledge to a DELTA level, pushing you to explore methodology topics deeply and think about how they apply to your context.
The DELTA Module 1 course does this while simultaneously introducing the tips, tricks and traps that will help you to successfully pass the Cambridge DELTA Module 1 exam, and giving you plenty of exam practice too.
This Advanced Methodology course allows you to focus on just improving your teaching, without thinking about an exam at the end of the course. It supports you to reflect on your teaching and put what you're learning into practice with your learners straight away.
You then have the option to complete a 5-month DELTA Module 1 exam preparation course afterwards which focuses purely on the exam, as we know you already have the requisite methodology knowledge. This short course is only available to those who have completed the Advanced Methodology course first, with application details provided at the end of the Advanced Methodology course.

What you'll discuss
In our Advanced Methodology course, you'll discuss a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:
- action research for teachers;
- how to teach reading, listening, speaking and writing effectively;
- working with language;
- understanding pronunciation;
- Second Language Acquisition (SLA) theory;
- methods and approaches.
Beyond the topics
Apart from the essentials you'll need to complete the course, we'll also teach you how to research your own practice as a teacher, how to find effective professional development resources online, and how online teaching and training can work well.
Time each week
We expect that you will spend about one to two hours researching topics before each session, plus one to two hours experimenting and reflecting on the topic after the session.

Who is the Advanced Methodology course for?
The Advanced Methodology course is suitable for English language teachers with a minimum of one year of teaching experience after their initial qualification. You might be somebody who:
- would like to improve their knowledge of methodology without the pressure of an exam;
- has previously completed DELTA Module 1, but would like to refresh their knowledge of DELTA-level methodology;
- would like to work towards DELTA Module 1, but would prefer to separate studying methodology and exam skills (our nine-month DELTA Module 1 course covers methodology and exam skills simultaneously).
How long is the Advanced Methodology course?
Take Your Time DELTA Advanced Methodology courses last for 9 months. Courses run for 36 weeks from April to December or from October to June and include 25 ninety-minute sessions plus suggested action research each week.
What does the Advanced Methodology course teach you?
In our Advanced Methodology course, you'll discuss a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:

- how to teach reading, listening, speaking and writing effectively;
- working with language;
- understanding pronunciation;
- Second Language Acquisition (SLA) theory;
- methods and approaches.
Will the Advanced Methodology course prepare me for DELTA Module 1?
Our Advanced Methodology course is not a specific DELTA preparation course. However, the methodology input you gain on the course should help you to work towards DELTA level. The input is an adapted version of the methodology input on our Take Your Time DELTA Module 1 course, covering a similar range of topics but without the pressure of an exam to work towards. The focus of this course is on improving your classroom practice due to improved methodology knowledge, as well as improving your ability to reflect on your teaching.
If you complete the Advanced Methodology course, there is the option to move onto a five-month fully exam-focussed DELTA Module 1 preparation course, only available to trainees who have completed this course or our DELTA Module 1 course (but without taking the exam).
How many hours a week will I need to dedicate to the Advanced Methodology course?
The exact number of weekly hours outside the 90-minute sessions is difficult to estimate as it differs for everybody depending on their prior knowledge, their experience, their reading speed, how easy they find it to use computers, etc.
We expect that you will spend about one to two hours researching topics before each session, plus one to two hours experimenting and reflecting on the topic after the session.
I won't have access to students throughout the Advanced Methodology course. Is that important?
There's no requirement to be in the classroom during the course, though you will probably find it easier to complete the action research component of the course if you are teaching. Some areas can be investigated through your own language learning or discussion with other teachers, but if you are able to find at least one student to teach during the course, that would be best.
