What is Cambridge DELTA Module 1?

Cambridge DELTA Module 1: Understanding Language, Methodology and Resources for Teaching is an opportunity to explore teaching and learning English from different perspectives. This module is theory-based and it is assessed by a written exam with two papers.

But preparing for it can feel overwhelming: input to process, new methodologies to examine, and jargon and terminology to retain.

As a teacher you set exams, but you haven't sat one for a long time. If you haven't studied for a while, you might start to question yourself. Will I cope with the content? The studying? The exam?

There is another, less stressful way to prepare for Module 1. The Take Your Time DELTA Module 1 course.

All frequently asked questions

How long does it take to complete Module 1?

The Take Your Time DELTA Module 1 course takes nine months to complete. Courses run for 36 weeks from March to November or from September to May and include 30 ninety-minute sessions plus homework.

We recommend taking our Module 1 and Module 3 courses consecutively, i.e. one module per academic year.

How many hours a week will I need to dedicate to Module 1?

The exact number of weekly hours is difficult to estimate as it differs for everybody depending on their prior knowledge, their experience, their reading speed, how easy they find it to use computers, etc.

We typically find that trainees who are able to block two to three hours a week for personal study, or to commit to 15-20 minutes every day, make the best progress on the course, though the more background reading and research you can do, the more confident you will feel in the exam! We also recommend that you regularly meet up with a study buddy on the course and will help you to find somebody suitable for this. Everybody does more as they get closer to the exam too, so you might want to factor that into your planning!

Can I take the DELTA Module 1 exam online?

No, the exam must be taken in person. This means you need to register with an exam centre. There are two sittings each year: the first Wednesday in June and the first Wednesday in December.

How do I find an exam centre and register for the exams?

You need to arrange and pay for the exam with a recognised Cambridge centre. Registration typically closes 6-8 weeks before the exam, so in April for the June exam and in October for the December exam. We will remind you to sign up during your course, after you have completed Mock 1 and had a tutorial.

I have already sat the Module 1 exam and failed. Can I still join a course?

Yes, that's fine. Previous course participants have had similar experiences. After completing the Take Your Time DELTA Module 1 course, they have gone on to take the exam successfully, even if they had previously failed the exam before starting with us.

What happens if I miss a live Zoom session?

All live sessions are recorded. However, we find that if you miss more than four or five live sessions, it can be very difficult to keep up with the course.

The live sessions are the most important component of Take Your Time DELTA, and are the part which trainees say they find the most useful.
